I don't know if they have space but my sons love Camp Carolina in Brevard, NC.
40 minutes from Asheville.
Amazing place.

The girls camps around are Illahee and Rockbrook. Both get wonderful reviews from the families we know.

Camp Letts sent me out on a Sunfish with no instructor when I was eight. I capsized immediately and was stung by multiple jellyfish. It was not a cool exercise in independence, but a fine example of negligence.

I applied for a slot today for a session that appeared open. I hope I didn't just waste my $300. Looks fantastic!

Bump. I'm interested in this, too, because the session I "applied" for last week shows availability. Does it really take 4-6 weeks to find out if my child got in?

The registration was early October and filled up same day. You may still be able to get into a one week starter camp.

Fwiw, our kids and their friends also did not get into Seagull - I found the process off-putting btw. Our kids went to a sleepaway camp in PA and had an amazing summer, and will go back this summer, so do not fret about Seagull.

Echo Hill is a dump

Look at the camps in Maine and New Hampshire that have been around for 50 years.

Nor did several friends' families. Anyone else?

Now we're looking into other sleepaway camp options that are less than 8 hours away. Would love suggestions of camps you've been to or heard good things about.
