Obviously, it's easy enough to just scroll past it if we're not interested. But even though it doesn't rise to a real "trigger" type of thing, I for one can say I don't love coming to the general Off Topic board and being reminded of all stuff. It's just a lot.

Curious if others feel the same way, or whether they're happy to keep this type of stuff in Off-Topic. Thoughts?

Yeah I think PP hit the nail on the head with the term "haven for ghoulishness." I'd never deliberately go to that forum. I avoid the threads on tragedies most of the time as it is.

sometimes I have to avoid "off topic" altogether just so I don't have to read some of those thread titles. so depressing and voyeristic.

I have noticed that some of the "Newer" forums have much less traffic than the older ones.

I.e, The Pop Culture, etc.

Got it. I hadn't thought of new forums as tools for expansion. I'd always seen them as filters for the core categories. But I get the expansion strategy, and I agree there's no need to invite more rubbernecking! I'll stop suggesting it.

This idea keeps coming up, but it is not likely something we are going to do. We get a lot of requests for forums. When adding new forums, I like to think of it as a direction in which we would like to see DCUM expand. I don't really want to expand toward an increased number of such posts.

Does anyone even go to specific forums regularly?

Totally agree with PP - I use recent topics, so it wouldn't help me anyway. I'm frustrated with so many boards and trying to figure out where to post, as it is.

I'd say leave it in Off Topic unless he wants a forum that becomes a haven for ghoulishness. My guess is that most of us scan via Recent Topics so it would come up in our feed regardless.

There seems to be a ton of traffic on the Off Topic board about various tragedies and crimes, both locally and nationally.

Every day there seems to be another post about a child shooting, school rampage, child abduction, accidental/mysterious death or local murder or suicide.
