Are you going to pay 20K for Sean Aiken? This is my point. It's essentially a school that they are now asking for money for that you can get for free for inner city families. No thank you.

Sean Aiken is great. As a BASIS DC family, I would happily pay $20k.

And calling it an inner city charter school? Do you ever cross the river?

I wouldn't pay for it. It's not proven. Let's see in a few years.

At the info session I was at he seemed like he was 30. My problem is paying for what is essentially the same model as an inner city charter school but now it's in the suburbs and expensive.

How old should a principal be?

I went to an info session. Sounds ok for the right kind of student. Kind of a junior TJ that isn't as elite. Not for my family, but I am sure they will fill a niche.

I attended an info session. They're passionate and will fill a niche. I wish them well with just the right student body that thrives in a fast-paced environment.

I'm going to go to one of the sessions. I am interested. I live so close, that is a plus. If, after the information session, it still sounds interesting, I plan on visiting Basis Brooklyn. I think that would be the best way to get an idea of what an independent Basis school would look like. I'm guessing it will have some major differences from the charter schools. Some people would like those differences, and some wouldn't. I'll post more after the session next week. I am certainly intrigued, but don't know enough yet.

All the talk about the incredible amount of homework has made us decide not to apply.

The student body will be very different than DC just by virtue of being an independent, selective admission school. McLean will be K-12 (DC is 5-12). They say there is also more arts and an explicit STEM focus at the private versions.

Is anyone going to apply?

I believe there is no financial aid. They have opened other private versions in California & New York - so it will be similar. But yes, it is just like the DC charter but now you would pay.

What do parents think? How is the financial aid? Is it basically just a charter school we now have to pay for in NOVA?
