OP here, and that's interesting about Gonzaga - I work right by there and frequently see Gonzaga boys on the metro, and I had assumed that they were wearing a uniform since they all seem to be dressed alike! And I'm actually surprised to hear that Bullis has a uniform.

There is no uniform in St. Andrew's high school and at least when my kids went there none in middle school either (but I have not kept up with that), but there is a dress code. I only have boys so can't really speak to the girls dress code, but I think it is basically aimed at avoiding jeans and anything super short/or highly revealing. They don't let you wear shorts in the middle of winter (except for sports, of course). The only times I have ever heard real complaints are at the beginning of the school year when new families aren't sure how about where the lines get drawn or when a girl wants to wear very short skirts/dresses or very revealing tops that are the latest style. Occasionally, they have "dress up" days but those are few and far between. For the vast majority of kids there, it just isn't a big deal.

Many upper schools have a dress code, not a uniform. First step into moving into the real world and learning to dress neatly in regular clothes

DD is in a private middle school right now and is sick of wearing a uniform. She seems to think that all private schools have uniforms in high school as well, but I don't think that's the case. I'm looking for a list of (preferably co-ed) schools where the upper school doesn't have a uniform.

And no, this is not a criteria for applying to a school - we still have several years before that anyway. I just want to let her know that it IS a possibility down the road!
