Only if you trust her not to miss the bus.

Of course. I let my third grader walk to school on her on. So do most people in the neighborhood.

OP says the she is the only middle schooler on the street. So presumably, there are no other kids.

And I'd let the DC be by herself as long as that was what she wanted. If she wanted company (because she might be bored waiting for bus, or isn't comfortable standing alone), then go with her and chat.

I'm not the OP, but I too would think before doing this, and would probably come down on the no side. DC walks with friends to the bus stop, but I wouldn't like DC standing in the dark by himself at the bus stop. I'd go with him, especially during the months when it's dark.

Call me crazy, but I would wait with her. I enjoy the time at the bus stop in the morning with my 5th grader. It's just the two of us and we have great conversations because there are no distractions.

Yes, but not when it is pitch black dark in the wintertime

My 3rd grader walks to school alone in DC. AndI thought I was being a helicopter by waiting until he was 9!

Definitely! My middle school kid either walks or bikes to school 1.5 miles, sometimes with friends but sometimes on her own.

Yes. Most sixth graders walk to school by themselves here in my Arlington neighborhood.

She is the only middle schooler on our street, and we live in a safe neighborhood. The bus stop is not on a busy road.
