Similar issue. My inlaws only serve one bottle of Berlinger white zin for 10 people. I brought a nice bottle of wine once in about 8 years and it got made fun of. And they told me they prefered white zin and my wine tasted bad.

We usually just drink the night before thanksgiving with friends. It's the biggest drinking day of the year. I do miss wine on holidays though!!

I do this at my MILs house. She has a no alcohol on her property rule. This has led to people going down the hill to my BILs house, or drinking outside of her front gate.

Nope. Not alcoholics. Just felt like a drink for a change at these holiday gatherings after 30 years.

The only time friends or families bring their own booze when there is none, is the time when alcoholics are invited and they cannot imagine doing anything without a drink so they sneak it in. I used to work with coworkers who brought alcohol in to work, because there isn't liquor at work either. BTW- it was a middle school. LOL. Yep- it was vodka- and by their own admission.

Op, the hosts know that alcohol is a problem in the family, and fuels the drama.

Drama in the making, because they will find out sooner or later and be hurt.

DH and I do not drink, so we prefer guests to bring their own or tell us exactly what to buy and how to serve it, since we have no clue. Our guests can drink however much they like!

+ 1. I don't drink and I don't provide alcohol, but I wouldn't mind if you brought your own. I would, however, be hurt if people were sneaking off to engage in pretty much any activity and excluding me at my own holiday gathering.

My aunts, uncles and grandma did this when my parents hosted Christmas. I only found out as an adult and thought it was smart of them. My parents don't drink and don't think anyone should.
