The place in Kensington is private pay.
They're all shitty. I know. That's why Mom kept my father home and paid for his care out of pocket for 6 years. Brooke Grove, however, is MUCH better than many of the other places we visited, and we traveled to many, many places.
That's great if you can afford it to keep your father home. We tried it and its not an option for us. Nor is Brook Grove.
Is medical care needed around the clock then?
Dad was mostly bedridden b/c he had lost much of his ability to walk from Parkinson's. It was cheaper to keep him home with 12-hour care. I believe at the time home care was $65K a year, which was about $20K cheaper than keeping him in a home. Mom couldn't stand the homes anyway. So they really weren't an option for her.
However, if he had mobility and had been a wanderer, which is what often happens with forms of dementia, she would have had to place him in facility with 24-hour care. But they are expensive. And I do believe BG is around $7K a month - or over $80K a year. That's someone's salary.

However the last place was Brook Grove and by then, she was showing obvious signs of dementia as well as problems with mobility and feeding herself. Brook Grove worked really hard to make sure she was eating and getting the full care she needed. They were so much more caring and attentive than the other two places she was in before.
