I knew for a while I wanted to marry her. I proposed when I was in a position where I was finally secure with my job and knew I wouldn't be a financial liability.

But hey! 8 years and 2 kids later we're still happy.

Met at work, but were dating other people from the time we were introduced to a bit over a year later. Both of us then became single at the same time and started dating. After about a month she invited me to a family event but said she was concerned that I would feel she was "rushing things" by asking. I have no idea how this came out but said, "that's fine meeting them now because we are going to get married someday anyway" and the rest is history, 15 years and counting. We got officially engaged about a month later.

My now DW told me after about 3 years of dating she wanted to be married and have kids and if I wasn't ready, she understood and would move on. We were 28. I would have waited longer but I didn't want to lose her. Best decision to propose shortly after.

Gun to my head, I was told that she would be leaving and never coming back.

I never thought it would last but it has been 21 of the best years of my life. She gave me a drop dead date and I ran the clock out to within hours of the deadline. In hindsight it was disrespectful and I wish it had been done differently but I've made up for the rough start. (I keep a 4 (hers) to 1 (mine) orgasm ratio)

Because I got to a point where I knew I wanted to spend the rest of my life with her, making her make that little smile, and she'd made comments about our future that indicated she wanted to marry me too.

We'd been dating for 13 months, and I felt ready. We both were open about the fact that we felt like marriage is where this was leading, but I did not feel like I had no choice at that point. I was 23.
