I imagine you are good at research, and wonder what kinda of jobs need researchers?

Also, wonder about communications, maybe for a foundation or nonprofit in social justice?

It's trite but you should start conducting information interviews

It's ghost writing pieces about specialty subject matters. Like, writing your thoughts on the importance of emerging markets to municipal bond holders, or how RFID will affect surgery times, etc.

That sounds deathly dull and not distinctively different from PR.

PR person her (not poster). Guessing it is ghost writing Op-Eds, journal articles, finding speaking engagements etc. Positioning the client (or boss or whomever) as a "thought leader" on a subject.

True, but what they want is people strong in math and stats and business, not journalism and social justice. Thought Leadership may be, but at a non-profit or public entity.

PR is the most obvious idea, either for some of the big agencies or for companies selling into those.

Communications at a trade department. Lots of similar type of tasks that you do now, with a focus on a particular industry.

It's not straight PR, but web content is really big these days. Can you teach yourself to code? (HTML, CSS, Javascript)

This way you could write for and update websites.

Looking for some different career options for someone with 20+ years experience in journalism, writing on crime, social justice issues, science among other topics. Experience with daily newspapers, monthly magazines and specialist publications. Strong track record in investigative journalism (the type that's unusual these days) that has changed policy, been discussed by politicians, won awards and been picked up widely by other media.

Other than PR, what other careers can use benefit from similar skills and experience?
