What is your budget?

I would absolutely live in the Waban section of Newton - access to public transportation, beautiful community, great schools. But you pay for it.

Brookline really fits the bill, with home prices comparable to Georgetown.

Cambridge would be less expensive than Brookline. The public schools there are more variable; if you have high achievers, they will be fine. (The Cambridge Rindge and Latin grads I know have PhDs and intellectually fulfilling careers)..

Boston Public schools are lottery with neighborhood preference, so you are rolling the dice there.

Newton is slightly more affordable than Brookline (in $ per sq ft) with excellent schools, but the odds that you will need to get in the car for a quart of milk are higher.

OP, you need solicit educated (!!!) opinions from people who have been legal residents of that area.

I would say brookline, newton, wellesley, or if you're commuting to cambridge/west ish area, maybe belmont or arlington.

we are in the north shore and love it, but the daily commute to the city would not be doable.

Lexington center.

Brookline - great public schools, walkable to Back Bay and also on the T, great neighbor vibe and a bookstore that rivals Politics and Prose (Brookline Booksmith).

My in-laws live in West Newton. I like it there a lot. Our good friends live in Brookline and Wellesley. Love both throes places too.

All have good schools.

That said, my in-laws and my husband and his brother to private schools. Our friends in Brookline do the same thing (4 kids). The ones in Wellesley use the public schools. They seem to be happy.

Cambridge, Arlington, Belmont. My cousins have 3+ young kids and live in these cities and go to public schools.

Any recommendations of where to live? We love city living and have lived in Georgetown and Capitol Hill and have loved it due to walkability. Need strong public schools. Any recommendations of where to look? Thanks!
