Thanks. Little old lady landlord whose a bit hard to get changes through. It's in our lease we can't install any closet fixtures without written approval and then have to leave anything we do install when we vacate. I was trying to find a work around.

I agree with PP. They're unreliable even with light items.

Unfortunately, I don't think you'll find one reliable enough to hold heavy items like coats. Tension rods lose their tension and fall down easily. I think you'd be better off trying to install a permanent rod (or pay someone to help you do it).

Coat closet in new apartment has a shelf, but no rod. Anyone have luck with tension rods in a coat closet? What brand would you recomend? TIA!
