This is not the case at all middle schools. Although the number is low, there are some kids who take Math 7 for their math class as opposed to Math 7 Honors, Honors Algebra, or Honors Geometry.

Definitely the case in ours that you have to take 3x AAP plus honors math to stay in the center. Maybe that's not the case at the LLIV MSs? Probably the only way to know for sure is call your Dc's zoned AAP Center MS.

OP: here's the answer you're looking for. She could go to the AAP Center, but she would have to take Honors Math 7, rather than "normal" Math 7 (assuming Algebra is off the table in 7th) and honors Algebra in 8th.

PP is referring to the 2 year course sequence for AAP in MS Algebra I Honors(7th), Geometry Honors (8th) or Math 7 Honors, then Algebra I honors (a very small number of kids are further accelerated, and take Geometry Honors in 7th, Algebra II honors in 8th). Non-AAP kids have the option of taking Math 7, with or without honors, and then either Math 8 or Algebra (with or without honors).

Non AAP kids can also take the Algebra I Honors (7th) / Geometry Honors (8th) sequence if they came from an elementary school that offered advanced math. At my kids middle school there are many non AAP kids doing this.

Algebra 1 Honors is for qualified students in 7th grade and the sequence continues to Geomtery Honors in 8th grade. Qualified students are those scoring 91% or higher on the Iowa Algebra Aptitude Test and scoring Pass Advanced (500 and higher) on the 7th grade Math SOL, after completing Advanced Math in grade 6.

Students not in advanced math in grade 6 would take Math 7 or Math 7 Honors in 7th grade.

If your DD is Center-eligible, you can reinstate Center-eligibility at any time (between grade 3 and grade 8).
