OP this happened to my DH many times before he landed an offer during his last job search. He's a senior executive with 25+ years of experience, in a very niche industry. At that level the candidate needs to be approved by the whole C Suite. If there is one dissenter or someone who just isn't sure, they just move on to the next candidate....even if HR has given you every indication that you're "the one"!

This recently happened to my husband and it was so frustrating only because it was a waste of time. Hours of interviews at the most senior level for a position that they later admitted hadn't been full decided upon and 1-2 members of the leadership team couldn't be convinced it was necessary to the company. Had he known the position wasn't even decided upon he never would have wasted the time interviewing for it.

It happens. Get over it and move on. There will be other jobs.

I was just in the same boat as you OP. It really stinks. I had a good interview with multiple people and felt for sure I was a strong fit. I came to terms with it but feel frustrated they didn't have the courtesy to contact me to let me know the position had been filled.

I wish you the best. Interviewing is an emotional process. The best thing you can do is let go, accept it was not meant to be and move on. Trust in yourself and know that the right thing is out there. Good luck!

I'm sorry but it happens sometimes. However, I agree with the PP about sending a thank you note.

Not to give you false hope, but I interviewed with my current company and they said very positive things during the interview. I was called and told they decided to go with a different candidate. Three months later, I received a call asking if I would come in for another interview as the person who was hired left the position and the hiring manager wanted to speak with me again. I came to the office and never spoke to the hiring manager. I was brought to a Sr. HR person. They agreed to my salary request and two work from home days after 90 days in the office. My manager and I get along fabulously, we never talk about my hiring. I later found out she hates interviewing people and immediately asked HR to contact me. Oddly, my MIL had said oh they don't know what they are missing, maybe they will call you back.

This happens. You need to remind yourself it's not that you WEREN'T qualified, it's just that others may have been a tad bit more qualified. There could have been just that one little puzzle piece that you didn't possess that someone else did. Don't take it as a slight on your professional achievements- what makes someone right for the job can be a myriad of things and you can never know what special thing a competitor may have had that you didn't. It's not that you weren't right for it- someone was just a bit more right is all.

I am there with you. I've been highly disappointed by several places that never even called me.

I also had a recent interview in which I was so sure I'd nailed it. I was positive I was going to get that offer. Then, I didn't. It sucked, because I've been looking for months and am getting desperate as I never intended to be a SAHM, which is essentially what I am plus a small pt job that I do basically at night. I want to have enough work hours to justify paying for at least pt daycare for my 1 year old.

I'm going with the "it happens" and you have to move on. Be happy you got the interview to begin with - I haven't made it to the first round even, several times, where my qualifications alone should have at least gotten a screening interview.

Agree with PP on sending a nice note and making a positive impression - you never know how things pan out.

It happens. I interviewed for a job about a year ago that I knew I was perfect for. The interviewing panel told me in the interview point blank that I was a top candidate, all of my references and even my supervisor was contacted and gave glowing reviews. My boss even told me they said I was a top candidate. In the end I still didn't get the job. Sometimes it's just not meant to be.

And good job on having a great interview! It's all practice for the big one, right? It's coming!

Eh. it happens. they might have had an internal candidate or someone with better connections and had to interview X number of people before hiring who they really liked anyway.

send a nice thank you note back and asked to be kept in mind for future openings. I have known several people who were later contacted by companies after interviewing for a different job.
