New to market, thus less experience and three times the cost. Our 700 works find on 2500 sq feet. Don't know much about 400 water recycling series though. Sounds interesting.

Yes, our heating/ac company put it in. It was so long ago that I forget what it cost and what kind it is - and I am too lazy to look it up, sorry - but it works wonders in terms of not waking up with a stuffy nose and not having to go through tube after tube of hand cream and not having so much static electricity. Love it.

we have one that is attached to the furnace. It drops water into it and releases some humidity in the air. It's not enough. we have a 2400sqft house. I bought a small portable humidifier for a small room and am planning to buy a bigger one for the lr/kitchen area.

I bought a house with a whole house humidifier and I love it. I can't tell you where to buy one but I would assume an HVAC company is a good place to start. Mold is not an issue b/c you don't set it so high that the air is noticeably humid. You will still need a good winter moisturizer especially if you spend any time outside, but breathing will be much easier.

Op here- I'm starting at a different level. How do you get one? Is it something an hvac company installs? Do people like theirs? Do they cause mold problems?

Google Aprilaire 700 whole house humidifier. There is also the 400 series which conserves water.

I would love to figure out a way to make my house less dry this winter- we all had chapped skin last year because of the dry air from our furnace. It seems to me that a whole house humidifier might be a good solution, but I know nothing about them. How much do they cost to buy/install? Do you like yours?
