Check closely on restrictinos. Where we live in MoCo (Bethesda) it would be considerd an accessory structure and a whole bunch of rules come into play, including a limit on how many can exist per block (not kidding). Our architects finally decided it was easier to attach the new structure to our existing house, as then it's just an addition.

I am currently looking at houses to buy and we would really like a garage. Some of the houses we like don't have garages, so I'm trying to find out how much building a 2-car garage would cost. Have you looked into this yet? I'm also wondering how to find out about the county restrictions for building on different properties. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

We bought a house that already had that setup.

cons =
1) you lose a lot of your backyard
2) you look out the back and see the garage, so I really had to "pretty it up" with a new paint job and flowerpots, etc.
3) you have a very long driveway to shovel

pros =
1) DH has a workshop in the garage and it's quieter than being attached to the house
2) the house has slightly more curb appeal without a big garage in front

we have a house in Rockville on a narrow lot and garage to the side or front of the house is not possible. There is space to the side of the house for a long drive way. Has anyone built a garage in the back or has a similar set up? What did not cost and how is it working Out for you?
