You could drive to a local ski resort like near Davis or Snowshoe, or even up to NY (Lake Placid?) or New England. Smuggler's Notch has kid's club and skiing. Mount Treblant in Canada?

I have been thinking about this very thing, leaning towards ski rental cabin in WV near Timberline, or even a short getaway for XC at a state park. But in the end my family always opts for WARM over cold when we have to choose, like the Keys or south of Ft. Myers. Could be done with stops along the way (Charleston, Savannah, Amelia Island, Orlando, the Everglades etc.) We swam in the pool on Marco Island and went on a tour to see manatees, next time we might rent a boat and explore Keewaydin Island or take the ferry from Ft. Myer to Key West...
