DD started wearkingmakeup in MS and, frankly, had many days when she wore too much or it was too harsh.

She eventually got the hang of it and now, in high school, has a very nice light touch and looks great with our without it.

All that to say, your DD will probably be too heavy-handed for a bit, even with lessons, but she will figure it out.

I have never understood why people would put in so much time, effort, and expense into making yourself up so that you look like you're not wearing make-up.

A 13-year-old doesn't NEED any make-up. Nobody NEEDS any make-up. But a 13-year-old might WANT more make-up, or different make-up. If you think that the 13-year-old should not be allowed to wear more/different make-up -- please explain why the 13-year-old shouldn't be allowed to?

When I was 13 I was only allowed to wear light colored lipstick, light colored nail polish, maybe a little light colored blush. Then when I turned 16 I looked like a hooker because I wore too much. My mother rarely wore makeup.

Always say less is more because makeup should enhance your features not create an illusion of false beauty.

Today I wear as little as possible.

I took my daughter to Sephora and she had a mini makeover. She loved it. She wears make up on Fridays because that is the day she does not have sports practice.

last poster again. But do let her have fun with it in the house or with friends At Christmas or birthday buy her one of those big kits from Ulta & let her play with it. She can watch videos on youtube.

Does she have blemishes she wants to cover or hide? If not, skip any foundation. A good habit would be a tinted SPF moisturizer, mascara (waterproof) and one "found in nature" color eye shadow (no crazy purple or bright green), & Cherry Chapstick. Require she follow a good skin care regiment every night or she loses the privilege of wearing makeup.

Pick two-three days a week she can wear the mascara & eye shadow, don't let her fall into the mindset that she has to have makeup on to be comfortable & confident. I had friends that slept in their makeup because they became so self-conscious when they didn't' have it on.

13 is too young for makeup in IMHO.

Take her to Sephora or the Clinique counter at Macys. They'll teach her how to put it on...
