I dated someone who was from Portland OR. Didn't want to move to NY or LA until he got a job that would move him to NY or LA. Yeah, that's never going to happen. So he was going to be making crap money with no prospect of ever making more. And not realistic about the business enough to know how it works. We had other issues, but this one scared me the most.

He ended up marrying a lawyer and leaving acting. He was in is 40's and taking jobs that most 20yo take.



This is one of my concerns. He is comfortable where he is.

I did. He was out of the day-to-day work when I married him, but his talent, charisma, great stories, all around amaze-ness make him a great husband. Wouldn't trade him for any lawyer-doctor-whatever in the world.

I was a working actor for many years. I got married while I was one.

Many of my friends are DC-based actors (and directors and designers) in very happy, committed relationships. So, I'd focus on the person, not the career.

As I have heard about acting, it is 99% rejection yet attracts people with a tremendous need for approval so keep that in mind. I briefly dated a woman who had bit parts on soap operas and was also involved with theater management. It was fine - she treated it like any other job.
