We are in silver spring.

The beam itself is visibly rotted through, cracked, and sagging. It is definitely not just molding. It was probably rotting for years before the pant began to chip off and things began to show through. It visibly affects a 1-2 foot length of the hotizontal supporting beam--an 8x8 I think.

Sounds easy. Probably just wooden trim under the beam that is rotting. You'll need to remove and replace the trim. You might think about PVC instead of wood. Then you will need to paint the beam and surround trim. Probably a $500-$800 Job. Feel free to call us @ 301-875-2781 http://www.designbuildersmd.com

One of the overhead beams on our front porch (under the gutter) is rotting and needs repair or replacement ASAP. We are looking for recommendations for someone to do this repair. I'm not even sure who to look for--would this need to be a contractor?

The question in our mind is whether this beam can be replaced, in whole or in part, or if this is going to become a bigger project necessitating replacement or repair of the entire front porch. Of course, we are on a tight budget, so we are a little concerned about the scope.

Can anyone recommend someone good and honest who can work with us to accomplish this (hopefully smaller scale) project?
