I personally have 2 co-workers that have sent their child ( Early PK3) to that location for job convenience and they both loved it and their children learned a lot but also received a lot of play time as well. One of the co-workers did not send her child back to the school for PK3 because her child got into a Montessori school in which her older child was already in at CHM@Logan.

Thanks for this info, very helpful!

I don't know about good option... looking at the Pre-k tumblr pages (you have to locate the school page first, then staff, then tumblr pages, from the imagineschools.org page) you see both homework for 3 year olds and a classroom management plan advocates removal from the group and removing privileges (i.e. recess time). I'm skeptical that a school who believes both homework and removal of something like recess for 3 year olds as part of the standard "positive reinforcement" classroom management plan (for what appears to be a huge class) - you know, those wiggly kids who are still learning (as in need to be taught) appropriate behavior/responses, and need recess both for proper development and also good behavior - is a good program.

So "imagine hope" is the worst, but "creative minds" and "inspired teaching" are great names...?

This, but I know the root of the observation...racism

actually more classism. These schools are racially diverse but less culturally diverse (i.e. mostly middle class)

It is actually a great local option for PK -1st grade! After that, I would look at other options. Those grades are their strength. I know first hand that kids come from that school ready, focused and kind. Go take a look OP, I'm sure the principal would not mind it if you shadow for a few hours. Just call and ask.

I don't know of anyone who has sent their kids there, but would love to know more about the school. Their website talks about academics alot, which is not my focus (as the parent of a rising PK3 student).

All three seem goofy when you're used to school names after historical figures or geographic features, although Imagine is actually the name of the network of schools (http://www.imagineschools.org/) that like KIPP schools are all named Imagine ____ or KIPP _____.

+1. But on the upside, none are named after confederate leaders as many Virginia area high schools are (wander over to the Virginia board for some recent spirited threads about whether those schools should or shouldn't be renamed).

I don't know of a single person in my neighborhood friend group that has or would send their child there. It might be undeserved, but it is just not on anyone's radar as an option.

The more I think about it, yes, it is a bad name. Maybe someday we'll have hope. Not now. But I can almost imagine it.

It did make it hard to use the search function. A lot of imagining and hoping going on in the DC public schools forum.

Any experiences? Curious particularly for pk for now, but want to know about the whole school if anyone has had experience. It seems heavy with Maryland cars at pick up, but with all the development and no nearby DCPS, does it attract neighborhood families, too?
