Milwaukee has nothing to do with UW-Madison. There is a UW-Milwaukee (part of the UW system). You cannot commute between the two cities on a daily basis.
Well, I suppose you could, but you'd never get to work (or home from work) in the winter.

I think PP was referring to UW Madison being in-state if you live in Milwaukee. Another poster mentioned that Minnesota does have reciprocity with Wisconsin, but you still pay a bit more on the MN side. I went to U of M Twin Cities and hubby went to UW Madison. We would move to either city in a heartbeat, and likely will in next few years. I lived in Minneapolis for 7 years, and loved it, but the Milwaukee close in suburbs like Shorewood and Wauwatosa are also lovely. Property taxes are very high, but housing costs are so affordable. Milwaukee has also gotten a much better restaurant scene as of late, and if you like German beer halls, they've got you covered. Minneapolis is the theater town and a bit more upscale.
