It took about six weeks for me. I received an email about four weeks in asking for missing information from my OF-306, which led me to believe that my name was simply sitting in a queue waiting for review for 4 1/2 weeks. I got an email a week later with the formal offer and several suggested start dates. DOJ-trial attorney position.

Thanks for the intel.

It's different if you're a direct hire. DOJ has direct hire authority and can bring people on quickly. Most other agencies move at turtle speed.

It could take months. Are you a first time fed? Could be 6 months. I'm a current fed and received a tentative offer in July and haven't heard back since. I would love to start...

HR told me agency security would now do their thing prior to the formal offer. Any idea how long this process should take? The position is not encumbered with a security clearance requirement.

I called HR mid-week; my message has not been returned. Given the prospect of a shutdown I would not be surprised if some things were pushed back.

It took 6 months for me to start my fed job after I got my offer. It wasn't a tentative offer, either.

You will have to learn to be patient. A simple thing that should take 1 day takes 6 weeks for the government to do.

I wouldn't worry. It can take a while.

FWIW we've been told OPM security stuff has been way backed up.
