Were they reading books in different reading groups and then discussing them? I would prefer that to worksheets a 10000 times over!

OP, which school system? We are in FCPS and feel the same way except my kids don't even get worksheets. What is the point of ecart if no one is using it or nothing of value is located on it?

So what do they do?

Not sure about this year, but in the past they just read books, draw on this little erasing whiteboard, and discuss them. It's pathetic.

Do all the kids in fifth grade read the same book, or are there different books by reading level?

We have seen some terribly-written reading comprehension type worksheets come home. Typos, grammar errors, run on sentences. Really crappy stuff.

That's a good series!

That is an awesome series, especially for 5th grade. Lots of adventure and action, but also you can have some great discussions about free will and courage. I've always been surprised the series isn't more widely known.
