I mean, pick any consequence you want. No tv, no ipad, no friends over, whatever. But really, you need to just stop buying the stuff.

No more soda in the house. If he can't follow the rule to ask first, then you remove the temptation utterly. Given that soda is total junk, this shouldn't be a huge hardship. Replace the soda with flavored seltzer water.

Yep, stop buying them. If you do buy them, don't make him sneak them--just allow him to drink them. And like PP, my family has switched to flavored seltzer. Since doing that I can barely tolerate the sweetness of soda, and I'm a huge sugar junkie.

Why are there so many soda cans in the house? His punishment is that he should not have such easy access to soda. Trust me, I love the stuff and I have trouble staying away from it but I don't keep it in the house and only drink it when I'm at a restaurant.

My guess is that punishments are not going to be enough.

Do you allow him to have any soda? I think that moderation is a better policy than a ban. My guess is if you had a policy like only one soda per week or something like that, then you might have better control over it. For one thing, you'll have more control if he drinks them out in the public areas of the house rather than if he has to sneak them into his room to consume.

Where is he getting them? Is he bringing them in from outside or do you keep them in the house?

Also, why is he not allowed to have soda? Is it a blanket ban, or is he limited to one a day, or is it just a matter of not asking permission first? Kind of matters to me in formulating a consequence.

I can't lock things up. He drinks plenty of juice, milk, and water.

I love coke, but I've stopped drinking it for health reasons. But, now and then, I drink sparkling juice, the ones that you can get from TJs or something. Why not let him drink those instead?

Where is he getting them? Are you buying them? Stop.

Argh! We have a constant problem of our 10 year old son sneaking sodas and drinking them in his room or bathroom. I later find the evidence hidden behind books or in cabinets. This past weekend, I found 2 hidden soda cans and had the TALK with him again about this. Surprise! I found another soda can under his bathroom counter this afternoon. Help me come up with an appropriate punishment for this.
