This is true for every single appliance you can buy. It's not like there's one that doesn't have cheap parts in it. They are all made to be disposable. LG, Whirlpool, and Maytag (which is owned by Whirlpool) are probably the most reliable appliances for your money. That doesn't mean they won't easily break, it just means that others break more easily.

Can't go wrong with either one, so whatever is on sale.

I have had a LG washer and dryer for 9 years. Never a problem with them. When they do bite the dust, I'll be buying LG again.

I've had LG and Whirlpool front-loaders.

I like the LG one a little better because the standard cycle is 37 minutes, whereas the standard cycle for the Whirlpool was an hour. Both get the clothes clean, both are smell-free (we leave the doors open).

Had the Whirlpool for 7 years and moved (left it in the house). Had the LG for 3 years and so far, so good.

They don't last like washers used to, but you really can't go wrong.

Same here - washer and dryer combo. They're great. It does take a while to get used to the interface and new washing approach, but that would be true of any new electronic w/d. One thing I do have a problem with is the depth of the washer (have to use a grasping device to get clothes out), but I have really short arms so that would not be an issue for most people.

We've had Whirpool Duet for 7 or 8 years, no problems.

I have a three year old LG top loading washer, and I love it. It was purchased from Best Buy. The model is WT1101CW. It was top rated in Consumer Reports and had hundreds of positive reviews online. I did a lot of research and especially relied on reviews from people who owned the washer themselves.

We can no longer stand our current washer and dryer (just moved, existing is functional but just really does not meet our needs). Dishwasher is broken so YAY... we'll just replace washer and dryer at the same time!
We had a Samsung FL set that we really liked - however, service is a pain b/c nobody stocks Samsung parts, they have to be ordered directly from the manufacturer, specific to your job (at least that's what sears told us on several occasions).
Criteria - large capacity, FL washer, delay start on washer. no real concerns about space as we can maneuver as needed. We'll get pedestals.
Our real options, if you eliminate Samsung, seem to be LG and Whirlpool. Any opinions to share?
