This was one of the best series I've ever seen on TV. I still think about it and saw it back in the summer. Her character showed that it's such a thin line between genius and depression. Like if you know too much or have figured out too much it's just hard to cope.

I haven't seen the show, but I found the book to be kind of depressing. Didn't anyone else feel like she had a really bleak world view? I guess I don't feel like life is nasty and brutish - too short, yes.

I think it "gets to" (not gets) our age group as in we can see many people in their characters (for me, Olive is my older sister who is now going through some serious health issues). But a powerful TV series for sure and really terrific acting.

This was very much my mother (although Olive was a lot smarter and manipulative). This series haunted me for days. Not in a good way.

I didn't think it reflects my age group (I'm 60) but it sure reminded me of my mother! The way that Olive resented her husband but still relied on him emotionally and couldn't face it was very familiar.

I loved the way the series showed that even though she was a harsh person she did care about people in her own way.

OP, what about the series made you think it "get" our age group?

Loved the box and HBO series

I read the book first, then saw the series on a long-haul plane trip. Loved them both. The HBO series was helped by the terrific main actors. I agree it's not just this age group that it would appeal to. In fact, I wonder if it might annoy some older people (like my mom)! Glad it was recognized so significantly.

I really enjoyed it - I think I liked it more than I liked the book (which I read first).

I loved it -- but don't see how it necessarily 'gets our age group'. It says a lot about life in general, but damn, I'm not as cranky as Olive, that's personal temperment, not generational.
P.S. I liked the mini-series so much I went and read the book.

I posted in this forum because this short series just gets our age group in so many ways. Did you see it and not feel depressed, regret, a little happy?
