What happens if you are thin and drop dead in the kitchen? You get to have an autopsy? Woohoo! Party time! Uh...wait a minute!
Florida is know for some of the most lax medical licensing requirements in the country. There are an insane number of quacks that practice medicine there who have been kicked out of other states. Nobody goes to Florida for their fine medical care.
Yeah, because the best docs prefer the congestion suburban sprawl of the DC area? That makes sense to you? O.k.!

Unfortunately, something very similar just happened with my BIL in Florida. And as long as there is a physician willing to assign a cause of death and sign the certificate, there will be no autopsy. BIL was 48 and found dead on the bathroom floor on a Tuesday afternoon with no evidence of trauma. He was cremated Wednedsay and memorial service was held Thursday at 10am. We ordered a copy of the death certificate with cause of death listed and it was signed by his family practice doc with "cardiac arrest and high blood pressure" as the cause of death. Everyone's heart stops when they die, so cardiac arrest is not a cause of death & millions of 48 year old americans walk around with high blood pressure, so that's not saying much either. But apparently it was good enough for the state of FL!

Anonymous wrote:Not sure where to post this. My girlfriend and I are DC residents. Her mom suddenly died in Florida at age 50 of what she was told was cardiac arrest. Girlfriend has just flown down there. Mom was married to a retired executive 20 years older. They didn't get along that well lately. The story is she was found dead sprawled on the kitchen floor. Her husband is declining an autopsy and is rushing for cremation. Girlfriend is distraught. "She was healthy as a horse," she says. I'm in DC trying to get her to consult a local Florida attorney to make sure her rights are protected and that process is followed on cause of death. This smells to me. If anyone has any other advice I'd appreciate it.
