Would never ever buy or wear those. I just don't get it.

No sweetie, they are really not. Unless you mean among your ex-"dancer" friends.

Ripped jeans are hot, trendy, and very expensive:

Well, I just bought a pair of "distressed" jeans (no completely open holes) and I'm 40. I guess I'll be "dancing" over with Paris while the old biddies clutch their pearls and murmur about how their lands end ponte dresses are the only way to go.

You're 32, Paris. It's time to stop calling things "hot" unless you're talking about the weather, your soup or a radioactive spill.

I love them but after seeing them everywhere lately I wonder if they are getting cliche. Agree that it's better if the holes are worn in over time. Maybe I should lend them to my DS to wear holes in the knees

+1 I thought that look died in the 90's, back when some kids were trying to dress like grungy Seattle rockers.

Hate them.

A friendly, classically fashionable French woman once suggested to me that ripped jeans are...juvenile and that few outside of fashion victim type Americans over the age of 21 wear them.

I admit that they have appealed to me on occasion but that sensible voice has held me in check. I might wear them to a clambake but that's about it.

There's an old navy commercial with JLD about their new line of distressed jeans for $15...with holes in random places.

My two cents: once you hit 28, you must stop dressing like a teenager.

I'm a guy and I'm noticing it more on all sorts of women. It's OK but just seems a little odd. It makes more sense when the jeans seem worn out and the rips natural. Like plain old worn out jean. Much of what I see these days are what look like new jeans that have holes cut in them -- weird.

Trekked out to the Tyson's mall today and saw a number of mom-type women wearing these ripped, old looking jeans. Is that a thing now? I haven't seen it in our capitol hill neighborhood, but maybe I was just paying more attention than usual since I happened to be clothes shopping myself. Does this look work for people? It did not look great on the women I saw, but perhaps they hadn't put it together the right way...
