That actually sounds fine to me. You guys didn't have much in common, so you resorted to talking about the thing you had in common. Had I been this woman, I probably would have appreciated that you brought up a subject we could actually talk about. Sitting in silence with a stranger is so awkward.

Let's face it - some people just don't have chemistry. and some people are socially awkward. I'm pretty good at carrying on conversations, but occasionally I will find myself in a situation where I'm not getting any help at all, carrying on the conversation. Some people are not skilled at this at all.

I thought you sounded kind of awkward. Maybe you were sensing rejection and wanted to stave it off? Either way, i would think it was a bit weird. Probably would have made my apologies and left rather than staying to chat about the dating site, after that.... so in that sense yes you got lucky.

Sometimes there's just no chemistry or spark. It's O.K. to do what you can to salvage the situation. There's a paperback which describes my take of the situation: "It's Just A Damn Date!!!: Why We Expect Too Much Too Soon"

So I went on an online date recently with a woman. Within 10 minutes I could tell there was no chemistry and she was acting very distant towards me. Which I thought was fine. I finally said listen no hard feelings, but this is not a good fit for either of us. I then began to ask her how she liked the site we met on. The conversation went pretty well after I did that. We finished our drinks after a decent talk and parted ways. And no I am not going to call her again.

I told my female friend I did this and she went nuts saying that was a huge mistake. That I got lucky that this girl didn't freak out on me. I ask whats the big deal of what I did? I think being open and honest upfront is better than the awkwardness.
