We host 25-30 every year, and we use nicer disposable plates and utensils. No one has boycotted Thanksgiving over it yet.

+1 the whole point of the day is the dinner. You should provide the best you can. If this was any other holiday, I'd say it's a little bit more acceptable, but not thanksgiving.

Fwiw - our thanksgiving guests always exceed 25 people. And everyone chips in on clean up.

Agree. Make the day as stress free as possible.

If you buy plates at Ikea, then you'll need to store them or give them a way. I'm not even sure if any place would rent just 25 plates, but I'm sure there are. But if these options don't work for you, no worries.

I'm really not a fan, but 25 does seem like a lot.

Inlaws make us eat on disposable when it's just us (their kids and spouses) on Thanksgiving. It's one of my bigger pet peeves about the holiday.

Next time you see a post with "Thanksgiving" in the title (or any other holiday you think people shouldn't be thinking about), don't click on it. There's no reason to get worn out by something you can easily avoid.

All the large Thanksgivings I've been to use disposable plates and I use them, too, when I host. Just get the plastic kind and not the paper ones. You might want to splurge on real flatware for everyone, though. Nothing fancy, but it's nice to have a real fork.

I think I would look into getting some cheap non-disposable plates. Although, honestly for 25 some people I can see the wisdom of using nice paper or plastic plates. The clean up alone would be so much quicker and easier. That would give you more time to spend with your guests....

I'm torn.

I'd say it's fine. Some people are more interested in image and looking like a Martha Stewart spread, and others are more interested in enjoying delicious food with good company.

There's no sense in creating needless stress/work if it may take away from enjoying the day.

IKEA has pretty cheap plates. I wouldn't do disposable for thanksgiving.... But then again I've never hosted 25 ppl!

We're hosting 25 people on Thanksgiving and it's our first time hosting. Should I buy cheap plates somewhere (we don't own 25 plates!) or is it okay to use the nicer/sturdier disposable plates? I can't decide if it's okay or tacky. But it would certainlymake cleaning up so much easier!
