You need more calcium than you used to.

I remember being a HS kid and seeing "old" people on the bus at 7am and thinking 'when I get old I am going to sleep all day'. Such a foolish kid thing to say.

I am only 41 but I don't sleep like a teenager now and don't see it getting any better as I get older.

Melatonin. 3 mg. Doesn't have to be every night. Might help reset you.

I can't embrace it. I'm a 50 something year old who has to get up at 6 am every week day with my middleschooler, and I work full time, so no daytime naps.

Go to bed at 9.30...

Exercise in the morning. Read a book if you awake in. The night and don't look at your phone, easier said than done for me.

Try a liquid trace minerals supplement, including magnesium. Take it in the morning because it can be stimulating.

Develop a bedtime routine that involves sleepy time tea with valerian. It tastes bad at first, but you start to associate it with relaxation and the taste will trigger rest.

NP here. You are lucky. By about 52 or 53, everyone I know has developed middle of the night insomnia. It's tough because my best sleep is often from 6:00 am to about 8:30 am and I have to get up between 6:40 and 7:00.

Yeah, same thing has happened to me. I used to be a talented sleeper. Now, even when I am exhausted, I still wake up in the middle of the night - wide awake. Hate it.

I used to sleep like a champ, but now rarely have an uninterrupted night. Periods of wakefulness can last minutes or hours. Why?
