My 11 year old still does. I'm a mama.

My 8yo DD still calls me mama. I'm from MA and went to an elite college and graduate school. I never pushed a name - that's just what she naturally used. My 6yo son has always called me mommy.

This mama snobbery is beyond stupid. I'm from a schmancy town in CT with European parents and my 3yo DD calls me mama - or mommy or mom or even my first name if she's being funny, but it's usually mama. I love it and think it's sweet. I'm not a hillbilly and neither is anyone else I know whose kids call them mama. Grow up, you silly women.

I'm 26 and still call my mother momma. I end every phone call with her with "I love you momma". I'm originally from Michigan.

Here is the real question, do we spell is Mama or Momma?
I tend to alternate subconsciously. DS is 6, still calls me Momma and I love it.

OP here. We are not hillbillies. DD started calling me mama as a baby, and hasn't ever stopped so far. Those who look down on mama, did your kids learn to say mom or mommy immediately? I thought mama was a pretty common early word for babies to learn.

I'm from the Midwest. Kids born here in DC. They call me mama. Didn't know we were hillbillies.

In what area of the country do people use mama?

I was born and raised here and the norm seems to be mommy/mom.

+1. I am from the South and also HATE "mama." Way too redneck.

My two boys always called me "mommy" (and DH was "daddy") until earlier this year. They are now 11 and 8. Now it's definitely "mom" and "dad."

Mine never called me mama. I hate being called mama. I am Mommy, Mom, or Mother. I am *not* Mama.

My oldest DD is almost 21. She still calls me Mama. She went through a phase of calling me "Mom" in front of her friends from about 12-15. I think she thought it seemed cooler. Then after a while she didn't care what others thought and went to what was comfortable.

DD is 10, and starting to display full on tween attitude. But, when she isn't a fire-breathing dragon, she still calls me Mama, like when she was little. I cherish these fleeting signs of my sweet little girl, and wonder how long they will last. How old were your DDs when the sweet Mama and Mommy permanently turned into an exasperated MOM?
