People are going to mispronounce it. Provide the pronunciation for each name. Are they the same pronunciation or different?

Ugh, neither. SO ugly, both in sound and the spellings.

Forever having people not knowing how to say it.

Dropped my kid off at a party today- had no idea how to say the kids name. Awkward.

I would pronounce "Ayla" like "Kayla" and I know an Ayla who pronounces it that way. You will be correcting a lot of people if you spell it Ayla and want people to pronounce it I-La.

This is OP. Ayla is the Turkish/Hebrew spelling. Isla is the Scottish. Isla seems to be gaining so much popularity and so we were exploring other spellings. We also like that Ayla means Oak Tree. Both are pronounced Eye-lah. Though I bet people might say Ayla like Kayla..so there's that.

Yes, a beautiful man. And Ayla is not only beautiful, but highly accomplished as well. She invented fire, horseback riding, domesticated the dog, etc.

Isla is much better.

Ayla reminds me of Layla or Kayla, which is also how most people will probably pronounce it.

For women of a certain age, this is going to lead them to think of those Clan of the Cave Bear novels. Possibly the only association most of us have with that name.

My husband and I really like Isla for a girl name but prefer the Ayla spelling. Thoughts on which we should use? Is the Ayla spelling too 'different?'
