Kane has no negative connotation for me. I wouldn't immediately think of Cane-the-brother-of-Abel, either. I like it!

I'm also a teacher, and certain names do have negative connotations at this point. For example, every Devin I've taught has been a handful with an overbearing mom.

I would love to see the Freakanomics author do an extended article/study on name trends and classroom behavior.

I like it because it's your maiden name but Kane is one of those names that are inexplicably popular for boys now because they sound tough... Kash, Kane, Axel, Diesel...

Cain is a better way to spell it. Kane makes you sound like you want to be a Kardashian.

I've been FirstName Kane since I was born, which predates the Kardashian empire. That said if they want to adopt me and throw some millions my way, I'd be ok with that!

Also, not everyone is Christian. I wouldn't have made that connection because I don't know the bible stories.

Kane is fine, but people might think you named him after that tool of a DJ on 99.5.

Veteran teacher here. ANY name you give your DC will have some negative connotation for someone. Most likely a teacher who had a student with that name. Lol!

As it happens, I had a student named Kane and he was absolutely sweet. Go for it!

Need a boy's name. We happen to like the name Kane because it sounds nice with our last name, and it's my maiden name. But would the negative connation be a deal breaker? Cain killed his brother in the Bible. I know people named Adolf and I can't help it; it makes me think of Hitler.
