We did this in our old house and plan to do it again where we live now. We were going to do a mirror and the contractor talked us out of it because he knew that in our small bathroom we needed the storage - I'm glad he did.

Our teeny tiny bathroom has a recessed medicine cabinet on the wall next to the sink, a mirror in front of the sink, and a cabinet over the toilet. It was already this way when we moved in, and it may not be gorgeous, but it's very functional for a small master bath and we are definitely not lacking for storage this way.

Put in an over the toilet cabinet for more storage. The nice ones cost over $200 though.

Both. You could put the medicine cabinet (as long as it's not mirrored) over the toilet or on a different wall, and put a mirror over the sink. You don't even need to use a traditional medicine cabinet. What you need is additional storage; think outside the box on how to provide it.

If bathroom is small, you should always find a way to add storage. I'd vote for recessed medicine cabinet, even if it sticks out an inch or two.

We're renovating both of our small bathrooms and aren't quite sure what to do. I like the look of a framed mirror but storage is tight and I think we'll need the medicine cabinet space. However, I don't want anything that sticks out, and all the recessed ones I've seen are either ugly, too small, or too expensive (if I spend more than $200 on each DH will flip, lol). What have others done? If you gave up the medicine cabinet do you miss it? I'm worried we'll end up with crap everywhere.
