I have been to over 100 Bar Mitzvah's in this area. The only little kids I have seen wearing suits are the kids who are part of the Bnai Mitzvah's family. For anyone under the age of 13, a blazer, shirt tie and khaki's or gray pants are perfectly acceptable. I would do the gray pants of you know the family or synagogue is more formal. Otherwise, khaki's are fine. Regular shoes, no sneakers.

A coat and tie even for those over the age of 13 is fine as well. We have been to many events where my DH wore that as well.

I would be mortified to learn a family friend had bought a suit for a ten year-old (that he will outgrow in six months) just to attend my kid's Bar Mitzvah.

Slacks, dress shirt and tie are enough. An appropriate sweater if the weather is cool.

I'm Jewish and my boys don't own suits or even Blazers. They will get their first suits when the first one is bar mitzvahed. Until then, a nice button down and khakis is perfectly fine, especially for a morning service and luncheon. I guarantee there will even be grown men who are wearing a sport jacket and khakis rather than a suit. If you told me it was a Saturday night affair that would be a different story.

Many Jewish boys may have a suit..but they often will not wear them to any Bar Mitzvah other than their own. Button down shirt is fine and tan pants. A tie would upgrade it for not much cost if you like. A Saturday lunch is also less formal than a evening event.

Jewish boys will have a suit....at least those that have not outgrown the suit they wore to their Bar Mitzvah (caveat: those over 13). If you do not have a suit, a nice shirt and tie with slacks and nice shoes will be fine. Ideally, you have those.

Blazer is ideal. However, no one will really notice if it's just a button down shirt and tie. He's just a kid. Bar mitzvah dressing for kids is really all over the map.

This is a 10 year old possibly non-jew.

The ideal is really to wear a suit. If he has dress pants, nice shoes, and a button-down shirt that could be passable.

Basically, every Jewish kid has nice clothes appropriate for temple, ESPECIALLY in the fall, for high holy days. Even if they don't attend temple for the HHDs.

Nice pants and a button down shirt are fine for your son. Don't buy him a suit. Total waste of money.

DS is 10.5 and doesn't own a,suit. We are going to a bar mitzvah in October - it's,a morning service, followed by a luncheon (the kids' party with DJ us the next day, but we can't attend).

Does DS need to wear a suit, or can he just wear dress pants and shirt? Wondering what I need to buy. I imagine DH should wear a suit? Again, it's a morning service and luncheon immediately afterward.
