It's kid dependent. My older DS did it until 8th grade, then decided he'd rather go to a party (I think it coincided with it being a weekend, etc). If they have younger siblings, I think they're more comfortable doing it longer because they have an 'excuse'. It also depends on the neighborhood. We had one jerk here who chastised the kids (then only 11/12) for being too old to trick or treat. Either give them candy or don't, but shove your lecture up your backside. Twit.

This- around 12 years old.

How lame.

My 4th grader turned 10 today. He still seems so innocent. Still very into Halloween. His school does a very big parade and party. All of his friends come to our street to trick-or-treat.

Back in my day--around 7th grade was when we stopped. However, my elementary school went up to 6th grade and my kids' school only goes up to 5th. I wonder if it is a middle school.

I am trying to hang onto their sweet, youth as long as possible .

When they think they're too old.

When they're too old or too "cool" to wear a costume.

When they're trying to be older or edgy or something and are unwilling to respect that trick or treat should be a safe space for young kids first and foremost.

Basically, IMO it's not an age that should be the cutoff, it's an attitude or set of actions that may accompany the age.

Really? There is a cut off age for Trick or Treating? When did this nonsense start?

3 year olds are adorable to dress up but they will be lucky to even remember trick or treating at that age.

No one is talking about ten year olds. Ten your olds trick or treat. By 13, they are going to parties. And, regardless, kids carve pumpkins well into their teens - they just get a whole lot more creative and detailed.

Wow, we have tons of high schoolers that trick or treat in our neighborhood. I love the older kids. They usually come out a little later and have fun. Who doesn't want free candy?

My kids trick or treat until they are in High School.

We have only had a few years not trick or treating... they went to a football game last year since it was Friday night.

We have had people over for over 10 years. They may walk around with the younger kids in our neighborhood or hand out candy.

When older teens walk by I give them candy... I don't understand not giving older kids that are your neighbors candy.

Around the second half of high school was when they stopped wanting to go door to door. First half they'd go, then have shaving cream fights outside somewhere.

Somebody has a party. Although my niece, who is 10, is very sweet about trick or treating with DD3, before she goes to the party.

In my town growing up, the teens would be responsible for creating the haunted house for the little kids.

Usually hang out at someone's house and eat pizza that the parents order for them. Someone always has a party. After about 7th grade, most kids in our neighborhood don't dress up.

What do your teens do when they are officially too old for trick or treating? Dress up anyway and go to a scary movie?
