I called a few people on windows - craftsman group, renew restoration, http://www.renewrestorationinc.com/, and mozerworks. http://www.mozerworks.com/window-restoration.htm

All seemed good, but pricey: for stripping paint and restoring to full functionality, more per window than the cost of installing new wood windows. Also, for economies of scale, they liked to do a minimum number of windows - six I think.

Maybe one of them would be willing to do a door, but I would expect to pay a lot.

Otherwise, someone recently posted on here on a place in Maryland that will just strip the paint off of interior doors for a very reasonable price. Combine that with a painter / wood finisher and you might be able to do it more cheaply.

On windows, I know the craftsman group is considered the experts in the restoration of historic windows. They are also very pricey - almost as much as new wood windows. But really nice guys who know their work.

We live in DC and would like to hire someone to refinish our 100 year old front door. Any suggestions on companies to do this? These companies often also refinish windows, so if someone has experience with a window refinisher that they liked, I would appreciate those suggestions as well so I can see if they also do front doors.
