I bought a digital file for a mad libs game on etsy. I printed them on card stock. It was cute and no one had played before. Not cheesy

My in-laws just threw me a little family shower yesterday, and we had one game and one activity. The game was a trivia/guessing game on a pre-printed napkin. Not too cheesy, but cheesy enough to get everyone laughing. The activity was super cute. My cousin-in-law (who planned the party) passed around a newborn diaper to everyone and had us write words of wisdom or draw a picture on the front and/or back of the diaper for us to see in the middle of the night (or whenever) for a smile. The only tip I'd give on that is to use Sharpies or some other kind of permanent marker. We used regular Crayola markers and while the colors are pretty, we have a feeling the marker will come off on everything.

I never liked the "gross" games like the dirty diaper game or the one where you pass around assorted unlabeled jars of baby food and everyone tries to guess what flavors they are. The one where the guests wrap TP around the mom-to-be's belly is also not one of my faves. Like the above PPs, I recommend trivia games, guess the celebrity baby name, gift bingo, and for co-ed showers, the "newlywed game" where you ask mom-to-be and dad-to-be questions (separately) about various parenting related topics. Questions like "who will be the disciplinarian in the family?" and "will Barney the purple dinosaur be welcome in your home?" Then you compare their answers.

Another favorite of mine is to have each guest fill out a blank recipe card with their best piece of parenting or babycare advice. Collect the cards at the end of the shower, organize them by topic, and put them in a pretty recipe box.

How about making up a mad-libs kind of template about the baby and what the baby's life will be like as she or he grows up from infancy to adulthood? They could be really funny and fun for the mom to reread down the line.

I don't think that there is such a thing as a non-cheesy baby shower game.

I think this is the one time that games are acceptable! All my sister in laws have had open house type showers and I find them so soulless.

I like the idea of human development trivia. That sounds cool and different, but still baby focused.

I like to make the game mama-to-be focused, if there must be one. Find pictures of your friend from infancy through teen years. Post them on a poster board (or around the living room) with numbers below them. Have everyone guess how old she is in each picture. Simple, fun, and everyone loves looking at old photos of a friend.

I recently went to a baby shower that did a "Dirty diaper" game. Various types of chocolate bars were smashed into a newborn diaper (unscented), and they were all numbered. The diapers were passed around and the guests had to guess the type of chocolate bar that was in each diaper by smell, sight, etc. It was kind of gross, but different and fun. Play the game after the food is finished being served. LOL

Another activity that I thought was neat was each table had card stock, markers, craft type embellishments and each guest had a number on their place card. While we were sitting eating, chatting and drinking mimosas (which I also recommend doing) we had to create a birthday card for the baby to be that correlated with the # on your place card. The card was to be from you to the baby, and the mom was planning to give the baby one card per year from someone that attended the baby shower. It was fun and everyone liked it.

No games. Just have some good food. Your guests don't want to play inane games, most just want to drink and chat.

If games must be played, then I prefer Trivia games. The baby gift bingo is ok too. Some fun trivia topics were what do you call the baby of various animals like foal, lamb, cub etc. And some science trivia about human development was interesting as well...like how long does it take for a baby's brain to double in size, how many babies are born on their due date things like that.

I'm throwing a shower for my best friend next month. It's been forever since I've been to a baby shower and I can't think of any good ideas. What games have you played at showers that were fun and not too cheesy? (I know games in general or cheesy but for this shower there will be an expectation for games).
