For boys... No to all piercings, tattoos, motorcycles, drugs and alcohol.

Oh the horror!

I assumed PP said that tongue-in-cheek.

No... absolutely not. I would never want someone to think my kid was gay or set him up for that sort of teasing.

Well, PP, I certainly hope that your child does not turn out to be gay. And not because it's bad to be gay, but rather because it's terrible to be gay and have parents who think that you shouldn't be.

I'm thinking - perhaps we could turn it into a reward? Perhaps for getting into Algebra in 7th grade?

Is this kooky - do we turn everything into a reward?

I prefer to think of as an incentive.

OP here - Well, your advice was all great at the beginning - I was ready to make a decision. Then you got all wishy washy on me!

A friend's little brother got an ear pierced 1+ yrs ago - now he's a 4th grader- and still going strong!

I'm into it, but DH may be happier with a "wait one year" approach.

Sure, I would. Told both my DD and DS no piercing ears until 12, and no piercing anything else until 18.

My 7 year old son wants an ear piercing too! So far I've said no, but it doesn't help that a boy in his class has an earring

One month is not that long. I don't care so much about the age, but the length of time he's wanted it. If he still wants it at the end of the school year, I'd say yes.

I would tell my DS the same thing that I would tell my DD: you can pierce your ears in 8th grade. It's a little hole, but they are prone to infection and allergic reactions. If he waited and still wanted it in 8th grade, I would say okay.

I think 11 is young. I've told my son that he can get an earring at 15. And I still kind of regret saying that.

He has asked 2 x now, over the space of about a month. I am in favor - cuz i'm a girl and I like earrings! But DH is against: he says 11 yrs is "too young to make that kind of decision!"

It could be temporary - if it's too painful or fussy he just removes the stud and it heals up.

DS is not impulsive, leans toward stylish but not fussy; is an independent thinker, a good student, and a musician.

Yes, I Would like to know whether you all would go for a one-ear piercing for a 6th grade boy.
