School health aide here. There are "stock" pens available for emergencies both in the health room and in various locations throughout the school. If there's a question about size/weight, you go with the bigger dose -- won't hurt the child.

It is weight based. My average sized kid went from an epi junior to and epipen around fifth grade (I think).

The school should have both sizes on hand.

They keep it in the nurses office along w your paperwork. When they go on field trips a school rep carries all the epipens and paperwork.

If your child is in middle or high school your doctor and you can complete paperwork allowing your kid to carry the epipen with him or her. In this case it is always best to keep one with the nurse just in case your kid forgets.

Of course they're allowed. I've been delayed a week or so before. No big deal. But my DS's is a very mild allergy.

Now if your kid has a severe allergy, it's on you to send them there without meds...

OP, fax or email your paperwork to your doc's office or drop it off in the morning first thing. Get it to the school asap.

I don't know if they will take your epipen without the paperwork, but they will epi your child if they need it whether or not you have an epipen/paperwork on file at the school.

It is VA state law following the death of that girl a couple of years ago. Mom forgot to turn in her epipen & paperwork and the girl injested a peanut M&M given to her by a friend. The school refused to epi her with someone else's epipen and she died at school before the ambulance made it there.

The schools should all have a stock epipen on file and the staff/district is released from liability if they use this epipen on a student experiencing a reaction.

True, but if I wait to bring the epi-pen plus Epinephrine Authorization form in until I can get it fill out by the doctor, will my child be allowed in school? I can't seem to find this info on the FCPS web site.

For those who need epi-pens and go to FCPS, were we supposed to have the epi-pens and doctor signed forms filled out by the first day of school? Will my child be allowed at school without these things? He is in 3rd grade, I should be on top of this by now, but it totally slipped my mind this year.
