He could mow lawns. I would love to pay a neighborhood teenager to mow my lawn instead of the service we have now.

My niece turn 15 over the summer and worked part-time at a local flower shop.

This is so perfect. Not the OP, but loving these suggestions. Believe me, I'm filing them away.

Our neighborhood is ripe for this sort of effort: lawns, dogs, and such (like shoveling snow). I think crafting a flyer would be a great exercise in and of itself, great prep for a solid learning experience.

My son gave beginner drum lessons starting when he was 14. My daughter got a job at a kid's clothing store (not a chain) at 14.

DD went to our local Dominoes and they indicated they "really only want to hire 18 and older".

DD worked at one of the pizza delivery chains. At 15 she answered the phone. Work permit (VA) spells out what they can and can not do. It was interesting. She wasn't allowed to use the oven. She wasn't allowed to use a knife. There were protections. She couldn't work past xxpm (don't remember exact) Couldn't work more than xx hours during the school week. For years it remained an item on her resume that got comments, respect actually. Everyone could relate to the difficult/pressure job of taking orders accurately.

That's not true. It looks like the min age is 14, although some franchises may be 15. You have to be 18 to close, but not necessarily a HS graduate. They even have a corporate program to help people get high school diplomas so they must have employees who have dropped out of school.

Depends on the state.

In Virginia, he can talk to his school counselor and get a work permit at 15. Several of my students are baggers at giant.

Drop him off at a strip mall, and let him go figure it out. I was working as a cashier at the supermarket when I was 14. And I delivered newspapers when I was 12.

My son gave beginner drum lessons starting when he was 14. My daughter got a job at a kid's clothing store (not a chain) at 14.

15 year olds to be exact. My son is looking to pick up a part-time job on the weekends. Does he need to wait until he's 16?
