Pp here. I meant non marking soles. Back in the day those were limited to white soles.

Shop on one of the tennis websites (tenniswarehouse (my favorite), tennisexpress, midwestsports). Most of them have excellent customer service and free shipping, and roughly the same prices as zappos, which doesn't have many kids' shoes that are actually designed for tennis.

Huh? Zappos has far more options.

Junior tennis shoes can be bought online:

If your kid is not serious, most "court" shoes (e.g., for basketball) would work. You just don't want running shoes.

my 12 year old is on a tennis team and he says they gripe the court better in addition to what others have said. He said he feels the difference especially in his ankles.

Tennis shoes have a non marking sole as well as are designed for twisting, turning and have a reinforced toe.

Try Zappos:

White soles. They should also have good side support for all the quick side to side movements.
Online Midwestsports is a good resource and locally racquet and jog will be able to answer any questions.
These don't have to be expensive just a little different than usual running shoes if there is a lot of tennis played. I can't run long distances in mine as they are not made for that.

10 yr old is now required to wear "appropriate tennis attire including proper tennis shoes." Coach is out of town for 2 weeks so I can't ask him. Amazon lists shoes for about 10 sports -- remarkably, not tennis. Any guidance?
