Read the FAQ. Process is different for each school but can include essays, portfolios (auditions), transcripts and teacher recommendation letters. You apply through the lottery so that you can rank your desired application school against your IB or, if you are applying to more than one, rank them against each other.

You're probably right, but when making the decision between public and private I'd like to know what the options and prospects are as it stands today, not what may or may not be down the road.

Yes, there is an obvious answer: apply to test-in public schools, private schools, other charter schools. Keep an open mind all around at all levels. It's not like because you're in a charter school now that's what you need to do for years to come. School choice goes both ways and includes private school.

DCI includes MV, LAMB, Elsie Stokes, Yu Ying, and DC Bilingual. So all of those have a path through high school.

Mundo Verde is part of the DCI consortium. Don't know about the others.

Apologies if there is an obvious answer to this question that I'm not seeing -- I'm looking at some of the more highly-regarded charter schools (and I know that's relative), but so far none of them offer school passed 8th grade, and some only to 3rd or 5th. The one that offers until 8th grade had this listed on their website: "An additional grade will be added each subsequent year through 8th grade." But again, that says through 8th grade, not through high school. What are these charter students supposed to do after 8th grade?
