Classroom teaching has become torture. Make this your last year and just enjoy the kids, ignore the bureaucracy.

OP, I am in year 26 and I am really, really feeling the drain. I am planning to get a pedicure and go through my closet and maybe buy a few new things. I'm the oldest teacher at my school (and I remember when I was the youngest!). I look forward to the different personalities of my students. I am making it my goal to have some fun every day and try to treat each student as important and unique. If that means I have to give up on some other "goal" that someone else has in mind for me, so be it. My goal is the most important one to me and I plan to go with it. I do have the advantage that it would probably take them a while to fire me if they don't like my plan (but I'm hoping they like it).

OP, I feel for you. Have you ever been interested in instructional design? That's a nice field, void of bureaucracies..

I hope that when you meet your kids, and start falling in love with them and their potential, that it will come back for you. I sincerely wish teachers didn't have so much other crap to deal with.

OP here. That was last week. We'll be greeting the children tomorrow. Thanks, everyone, for your kind words. I'm feeling anxious and jumpy right now. Somehow it doesn't get any easier. In fact, what you were doing right suddenly becomes wrong, just because of a decision from someone higher up. That's what I hate about it.

TMI... it doesn't help that I'm expecting my period tomorrow. Please let me just get through the day. To a PP... delivery dinner is a good idea. Chinese it is!

You all have the opportunity to influence, prepare and teach an entire classroom of young minds - every day. That is a huge responsibility but also an amazing opportunity to do something that really counts.

As a parent, I can only say thank you for going in, rolling up your sleeves and teaching our kids. I know it's not easy (I've seen that as a volunteer). But I also know that few things in life are so totally worth doing.

I'm starting my fourth year, and kind of feeling the same way. Hopefully I snap back into it when I'm with the kids. This was my first true summer off.... Don't know how I'm going to go back to work

Good luck, OP! You can do it one more year! You are a hero to your kids. Try to see school thru their eyes and make it fun! I agree teaching is not the most rewarding career given all the bs and the genuine tough work, but it should be the most valued. As a parent I appreciate yr efforts very much! I agree w the chocolates, and glass of wine (just one, and also recommend picking out a super cute first day of school outfit! Retail therapy! Set a milestone early in the yr, and get a massage to celebrate meeting it!

You can do it!! Pack a lunch for tomorrow that you can eat easily, something tasty with chocolate. Put the number for your favorite take out place into ur phone. Call on your way home so u won't have to wait long before it arrives. Treat yourself!
