Welcome to school nursing! I would recommend joining the National Association of School Nurses and then you will automatically be in the DC chapter. Out president is very helpful and I call her often with questions. I think our first meeting for this school year will be sometime in October. If you are comfortable with posting your email (or just make a new one for this) I would be happy to email you sometime to give you some more tips.

Otherwise:
1. Join NASN, you can look up best practices and they offer a lot of CE hours
2. Start getting use to immunization requirements and common childhood illnesses
3. Familiarize yourself with allergy plans (FARE and FAME both have good websites)
4. Their is a DC/Maryland conference every year in Ocean City in March, it's pretty helpful and then a national conference in July

I am so excited to be returning to the work force in a couple weeks. I just got a job as a school nurse in a brand new charter school that is just opening. The entire student body is comprised of 120 Kindergartners. Each year the school will be adding a grade level.

Anyway, I am wondering what resources you find helpful/useful. I would love to hear about any conferences/continuing education resources, journals, books, etc. I will be doing a lot of research over the next several weeks but would love to hear from anyone who is currently practicing.

My background is pediatrics and community health.
