The school called and had to push it to late next week since the special ed coordinator wasn't available. Let me know how your's goes, though!

Hey OP -- how did this meeting go? Can I ask who attended? We are having the same meeting for our K child early next week and I'm wondering what I should expect.

Assuming it's for elementary school and not middle, that should be pretty simple (only harder as they get older because there are so many different teachers to coordinate with). Usually shorter homework is simple too, again in the early grades.

So long as your requests stay on the side of accommodations and not services or specialized instruction you should be fine.

Thanks. Who runs the meeting - the principal? teacher? spec ed coordinator? Should we come prepared with a list of wants and be prepared to battle for our child, or are these generally focused in a collegial manner on the best interests of the child?

I always think it makes sense for both parents to go to these meetings if at all possible.

We meet with DC's school next week to develop a Section 504 plan in preparation for starting K. DC does not need an IEP, but does need some in-class accommodations.

What can I expect? We've provided lots of paperwork, including all the files from the IEP evaluation process and medical records. Any advice on how this works or what to expect? Do DH and I both need to be there or are accommodations for different needs fairly standard?
