If you're in biglaw, isn't this what your job is? Same for brokers and salespeople?

Are you talking about micro businesses and we're in a niche specialty? Well, if that's my specialty, I'm not sure I would completely change my career path because it happened to be the same path as a friend's. But if my friend went into solo practice, I wouldn't jump ship at my current job and just copy cat what friend was doing.

If you mean competition as in Deloitte vs McKinsey, then my friend would not even be a consideration because the competition at that level is above my pay grade and I trust neither of us would take it personally when one of our firms wins over the other.

Is the company you would be working for already taking all of her business (like you want to work for Amazon and she is a small business owner getting killed) or are you projecting that you will be better than your friend and take all of the business, like you are both interior designers?

Since we are in DC, yes, because its all about the $$$. To heck with friends! They are a dime a dozen!

In direct competition? Yes. Taking all his/her business? No. Unless, like a pp said, I were completely desperate.

How broke and desperate am I in this scenario? I would like to think I wouldn't, but as a formerly broke single mom, I also know that if I had to in order to ensure we were OK, I would.

Direct competition? No, my friendship is worth more than a job.

If you take all his/her business, I don't think you will be able to count him/her as a friend.

My best friend and I are in the same industry but work for different competitors. Sometimes he wins, sometimes I win.

Would you? Even if the company throws 50% above market rate?
