I like your cabinets, and have a white kitchen myself. It is a PITA. I would just get a subway tile backsplash to update, maybe new knobs (ORB).

I agree to leave it. If you want an update, do the backsplash.

I think cherry is a timeless finish for cabinets. White would be really hard to keep clean. And I don't think there's anything wrong with that backsplash.! Are we all supposed to change up our tile every 10 years?

OP I like your cabinets a lot. Cherry isn't in style now, but who knows in 5 years? I think you need a new backsplash and that would change everything. That mosaic tile screams mid 2000s.

OP here-thanks for all the opinions. I was really on the fence. I think I will keep them as is, and if I get a wild hair, I'll have them professionally done!

I had a professional paint over my ugly oak cabinets (his company didn't do sprays for some reason) and they look fab! I don't regret it at all. Worth every penny. I just have to do occasional spot fixes on our cabinets that are more heavily used but thats about it. Go for it, OP! But hire someone to do it for you.

If you paint them, spray them. Also know that the joints may show (like straight line cracks) in each corner when the humidity drops in the winter.

Your cabinets would look great in white. However, I agree with the other posters, they look like they are in great condition as is, so I'd be careful about doing them over.

PLEASE don't paint them yourselves. The previous owners of our home painted the cabinets white and they look TERRIBLE. Get them professionally sprayed and use sealant on them so they don't chip. Also make sure whatever paint is used won't turn yellow.

You need an alkyd paint. I used Sherwin Williams ProClassic. Need primer too. I got great results DIYing it but it was a ton of work. When we moved into our current house I hired it done and it was totally worth the $800.

Read EVERYTHING you can find for like 4 weeks. And I agree, those cabinets are pretty nice to be painting (even though I LOVE white cabinets).

I would be really hesitant to do this myself on five year old cabinets (twenty year old cabinets = not much to lose). It is really hard work and it's easy to screw up and/or wind up with an amateurish result. The cabinets are a little bold, but they look fine. If you want to paint, I would have a professional do it.

I love painted white cabinets but in your case I would not paint. You have nice cabinets. I'd change the backsplash and do other updates.

The current cabinets are about 5 years old. They are nice, but I think the kitchen would look better if they were white...that's part of my hesitation-they still look nice and I'm afraid of messing them up. They are not oak..I'm not sure what they are made of-the doors are wood but the sides of cabinet might have a veneer over it?

What are your current cabinets? Oak will not give you a good finish if you paint over it.

You can pay someone to spray as well. When we painted one of our cabinets we used BM cabinet paint.

I did a search on painting kitchen cabinets, but all the threads are a few years old. I am thinking of painting my kitchen cabinets white. I came across this kit at Home Depot and it has really good reviews:
