Some friends tell us they feel the school is too focused now on SOLs and driving up the school's ratings compared to Madison and McLean (apart from SOLs, Marshall is still not as highly rated), but I'm sure it makes others happy to know Marshall will get another very high Great Schools rating.
Competition is good, I for one would like to see McLean get their ass in gear and work on their math scores.

Maybe you should go over there and see exactly why the scores are lower and also get the colleges and parents to care about the SOL scores . . . if this really matters so much to you.

Most of the kids don't care about the SOLs since they have no effect on anything (college entrance, grade in the course, etc.). All they have to do is get a pass to get the verified credit. For most kids, that's easy to do and who cares about the exact score. By high school the kids are pretty sick of the whole deal and just plow through them. Was the difference in scores between those schools all that significant? Probably not.
Why people obsess over these scores is beyond me.

Who cares about SOLs? Certainly not this parent, and certainly not most students. They mean nothing.
